I like to tear down walls and build them back up and rearrange houses. Here are a couple I worked on.
Mike, Kerry and Brian came over today to install our new cabinets. They were delivered a week ago and have been sitting in my garage waiting for this day to come. It has been a super long process and a lot of sweat and hard work, but things are really starting to take shape!
Tomorrow the cabinets are getting installed. They have all been sitting in my garage waiting for this moment. Tonight, Mom put some finishing touches with primer and we cleared everything out of the room for the cabinet guys.
Finally! We are in the home stretch before the cabinets get installed. Today was another full day of mudding the new drywall on the ceiling and walls and putting a coat of primer on everything.
We started at 10am and finished at 9:30pm. What a long day! We managed to get most of the drywall up on the ceiling and around the upper wall. This was a very tough job. I am sure that Mike Holmes would not approve of our work, but I am pretty happy with the way it turned out (especially for a bunch of amateurs).
Karl and Greg came over to help me get started with installing the new drywall on the kitchen ceiling. Doing drywall on the ceiling is MUCH more difficult and time consuming than I anticipated. It took us three hours to get two sheets up with the cutouts for the lights and vents. I know, I know, we are a bunch of amateurs!!
Sparky, our electrician, came over and fixed up our wiring and installed the new can lights. I love the progress we are making!
Finally we are in the home stretch of removing the awful drop ceiling. Mom worked hard removing the framing and I helped as much as I could in my leg brace. Notice the timestamps on the before and after. This took us 3 hours. Not too bad.
Notice the very bad wiring job that was up there. We are going to fix that for sure!
Now that we have removed the drop ceiling, the pipes that were in there need to be moved up into the attic in order to the clear the way for the new ceiling.
Today Aloha Air is rerouting our AC from the drop ceiling hard vent into flex tubing in the attic. This is a big job but will make our AC much more efficient. We also had a new thermostat and return register installed.
Then Mom and I continued the demolition of the drop ceiling.
Next we need to remove the light box, reroute the plumbing and electric and then drywall the new ceiling.
We are removing the crappy drop ceiling in the kitchen so that we can have taller cabinets and more head room. On this first day, we did about 1/3 of it in order to expose the air conditioning duct work which is going to be moved to the attic.
