Lost Child

Lost child-
Your innocence was taken
By a man who spit on your soul.
The damage was done,
You couldn’t even run
From the fear that swallowed you whole.
You cry in the night
And by day hide your fright
From the people who know not the truth
Your dreams were forsaken
By the act that had taken
The purity of your youth

Lost child-
You are consumed with the pain
Caused by acts of long ago.
You were left to live,
And learn to forgive,
But how can you let it go?
As you make your way
Through the reality of the day
And the dreams that flood your sleep,
What hides behind
The shadows of your mind
Comes out at night to creep.

The Fog

Break through the barriers that surround your soul
Try to find answers to truths untold
Off on a tangent of emotional noise
You failed to make a rational choice
Crimson and clover and purple haze
You’ve found yourself in an endless maze
You reach out for things beyond your grasp
The fog thickens and the piper laughs
Wicked laughter penetrates your ears
Drums pound and heighten your fears
The dark knight will swallow you whole
And spit out the dreams that exist in your soul

Chicago

Cry for these people who,
In all of their confusion
And turmoil, agony and pain,
Sit, lonely, on a rock.
What a thought filled rock.
Hundred year old dreams.
Ninety-thousand schemes.
Why do you cry,
Little girl?
Would you like some candy,
Little girl?
Mommy wouldn’t mind,
Little girl.
Run!
Run!
Run!
Don’t look back.
The cars and busses and
trains and planes
Are rushing by.
Why do you cry?
Put him in the rubber room.
Can you see a purple frog?
Smog!
Smog!
Smog!
Filth and grime.
Are we all mimes?
Painted smiles.
Painted tears.
Cover all your emotion, man!
Live behind your disguise.
But I can see your eyes
And hear your cries.
Flies buzz and fly.
Oh my!
What confusion.
Look around.
What is found?
You are Alone!
Alone!
Alone!

Desires Are Forbidden Here

There are places I go in my mind
Where fantasies seem so real at times.
What I hunger for is very clear
But desires are forbidden here.
Monsters of madness
Darken my dream.
People I encounter
Are not as they seem.
I wear a painted smile
In a land of no tears.
I search for my courage
In a land of no fears.
The things that I want
Are the things I can’t obtain.
I reach out to touch them,
But they move further away.
Running blind, I go nowhere;
My destination is not revealed.
Looking behind, I see nothing
But the darkness on my heels.
I am lost and alone
In a world of no tears,
Forsaken and benumbed
In a world of no fears.

Eyes Wide Open

Wake up in the light of a new day.
Listen to what the world has to say.
Dreams fade
Reality blooms
Is one different
From the other?
Day turns to night.
Night turns to day.
Darkness is so bright sometimes.
You want to turn away
But where can you go?
What can you say?
Who is really listening
In the darkness of the day?
