House Party – Clint’s Birthday

We are always coming up with a reason to have a party.  This time it was Clint’s birthday.  We started with mimosas at 10am and didn’t stop drinking until 4am.  I made a bunch of yummy food on the grill including my famous portabella mushrooms, tuna steaks with feta and walnuts, chicken and perogies.  My friend Dan came from San Diego and it was great to see him.  Everyone had a great time.

Kid Rock – All Summer Long

I first heard this song while hanging out with high school friends after the 20-year reunion. Sitting there with Dean Boldrini and hearing these words in the background, I could only think of those days back in high school and how free we were and didn’t even realize it at the time. And, of course, it reminds me of the special place within my soul that has eternally been reserved for Jeff.

It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long
Caught somewhere between a boy and man
She was seventeen and she was far from in-between
It was summertime in Northern Michigan
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh

Splashing through the sand bar
Talking by the campfire
It’s the simple things in life, like when and where
We didn’t have no internet
But man I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair

[Chorus:]
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking ’bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long

Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She’ll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We’d blister in the sun
We couldn’t wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock and roll

While we were trying different things
And we were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking ’bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change
Or how we thought those days would never end
Sometimes I’ll hear that song and I’ll start to sing along
And think man I’d love to see that girl again

[Repeat Chorus x2]

Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

20 Year Reunion

I flew to Chicago on August 14th to go to my 20 year reunion.  It’s hard for me to believe that it has been 20 years.  The neat thing about my high school is that most of my class went to school together since kindergarten.  I stayed with my friends from high school, Blake and Christine, who are married now.  We had a great time.  There were many people who I would have loved to see who weren’t there, but it was great to see everyone who was there.

The photos are here: 20 year reunion photos

In Phoenix

So, we are here, in Phoenix. We arrived on Thursday evening and spent the weekend unpacking. It is so unbelievable to be home again.

I am in the process of writing a full synopsis of our trip, but in the meantime, you can view photos here

Leaving Daytona!!

Ok, so finally, after planning for a full year, we are leaving Daytona.  We have all three households packed into six moving containers, job transfers are underway, the kids are out of school, and anything that didn’t get done isn’t going to.

After a year of non-stop, every day stress and jam packed days with 3 hours sleep per night if that, we are finally leaving for the trip of a life-time.

We are zig-zagging our way from Daytona to Chicago in order to visit friends and family along the way and then begin our 10 day trek across Route 66.  Photos will be here once we start on 66 (tomorrow), and you can view our map any time to see where we are, where we have been and where we are going.

Where is Hera?

Does anybody know where Hera is? We haven’t seen her for a while. Athena and Helo are on the the Demitrius with Starbuck, and Hera was brought back to Galactica with the help of the good 6 back in season 3, so where is she now? Technically there are now two half-breeds aboard Galactica. Speaking of which, bummer about Callie.

There are way too many days between Fridays during BSG season.

So close now

I worked 18 hours straight yesterday and 12 hours straight today. It is going to be so nice when I am finished with these projects and can actually have some of my life back. All I keep thinking about is that there must be some kind of way out of the dark black pit and I keep screaming that we are going the wrong way…but in 40 days and 40 nights I will be on the path to the happily ever after in Arizona. Some of you will recognize the references there.

So, 40 days and we are leaving Florida for good on our way back to Arizona. In 8 days we will be driving out to bring my dog and my truck and some of our stuff out and get the keys to our house. It is going to be very exciting.

Did I tell you that I am job hunting? Yes. After four years of running a business and juggling so many balls in the air while attempting to walk a tightrope with grace, I have decided to take off most of the many hats I wear and get a job and benefits and paid vacations and do what I love to do which is programming. It is time to let someone else deal with employees and payroll and workers comp and unemployment insurance and corporate filings and tax audits and all of that fun stuff.

Anyway, I have a few job interviews lined up for the beginning of May when I am out in Phoenix and then we will be flying back here for a few weeks before we make our journey around the country and across route 66 for a fun-filled adventure like no other. It’s going to be phenomenal, and after a year of planning and counting the days, it is so fantabulous that it is finally almost here.

What a year

68 days left until we move.  Almost one year in planning.  Today is the anniversary of my father’s passing.  What a year it has been.
