Opinions

I tend to pretty opinionated at times, and I sometimes say things whether I think you
are going to agree with me or not, and I expect you to do the same.  I do not have to
agree with you and you do not have to agree with me, because when it comes down
to it, does it really matter if our opinions differ?  We do not come from an automated assembly line.
We each come from our own possibly completely random set of experiences that
are only a tiny nano-fraction of the infinite number of possible combinations of
experiences that can make up the path of what brought us to our own way of
thinking about things.  So, when I voice my opinion, do not take offense if the only thing that offends you is that I do not agree with you, because often, I am sharing my opinion in the hopes that you will share yours, because your opinion helps me learn about you, and how can we be friends if we do not learn about eachother and from one another.

Why do kids kill?

Why do kids kill?  Seems to be a big question these days.  So many people seem to want to blame things on the internet, and computer games, and geeks who stay in their rooms and play them and spend all their time on their computers.  So many people focus their attention on these things when trying to understand why kids kill.  Oh, he played video games all the time and was always on his computer…must be the mind altering stimulation that caused him to do it, right?  Playing video games, being a computer head, these are all part of being a brilliant child, and parents who are too busy to notice their childs brilliance are the cause of his or her anger, low self-esteem, and social confusion.  And I am not at all trying to say that I am perfect when it comes to the amount of attention I can give to my children.  I am learning, just like you, how to give enough and take the time, because I didn’t have enough of an example of how to give it either.  But every day and every month and every year, I get better and better at paying enough attention.   And, yet, at the same time, I believe that technology and the brilliant mind that creates it, is our future, and allowing our kids to utilize the technology and play video games is not going to turn them into a killer, unless they cannot share it all with their parents, because their parents are too busy.  Maybe my thoughts here are not correct, but I do not think you have much to lose by giving me the benefit of the doubt and paying more attention to that brilliant child you have, and if you happen to save his life or the lives of his friends in the process, then maybe one more brilliant mind can grow up with a wonderful foundation to build his dreams upon.

School

Doing Java Servlets for a project for school.  This stuff is both fun and frustrating.  I wish I had more time to learn everything about it quicker.  But I am enjoying it.  I am also doing a project with secure e-commerce and digital signatures.  Plus I have a javaspaces presentation to put together, and a Lisp and Prologue program to write (yuck), and a bunch of work to do for my clients, which includes a couple of PHP sites and a huge bar code project for the air force base in Japan.  And I am still trying to hang on to some sort of social life.  Fun, fun, fun.  School will be finished in 56 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

School

Well, there are only 10 weeks left until I move back to Phoenix.  Time seems to be going both slow and fast.  Kind of strange.  School is weighing on me and I have tons of projects to do before I move.  Janet keeps asking me if I have started to pack yet.  I just cannot seem to get motivated for that just yet.  School is coming to a close, my life is about to begin.  Kind of a weird emotional rollercoaster thing, but I still feel somewhat content and centered at the same time.  Really weird.  I do not quite know what is happening.  I feel like I have matured and grown a whole decade (mentally) in the last year and a half.  It is crazy.  I am suddenly visualizing my short-term future more clearly and accurately than I ever have in my life.

Karate

Jacob and I both moved up to yellow belt 3rd degree on Sunday.  The new semester of karate begins this Sunday and the next step is orange belt.  woo hoo!!!

Michael Bliss Band

Mark and I went to see The Michael Bliss Band last night at Rock Bottom in La Jolla.  Those of you who know me know that this is by far my favorite local band.  They are incredible.  Those of you who have not had a chance to see one of their shows, you have to come with me to the next one.  I first saw them about two years ago at a small bar in Carlsbad.   I was really amazed.  I go see bands all the time, but these guys were just incredible.  Well, the last few months, they were going through a bunch of changes and were taking a break, which was a real bummer for me (and them I imagine).  They had to find a new guitar player, which was not going to be an easy task because their guitar player was incredible before.  Last night, though, as soon as I got there, I saw Jimmy Patton.  They got Jimmy Patton to be their guitar player.  Now if you never went to a Jimmy Patton show with me, darn, you missed out.  He used to play at the Naked Bean when I first started watching him play, and lately, he has been doing shows in the gas lamp and stuff.  He plays two guitars at once and does it so incredibly well, it blows me away.  Mix him with The Michael Bliss Band and…..Wow!  It was great!  Plus Cheryl Bliss sang a couple of her songs and she  has a great voice and energy.  You have to go to the next show.  Check out my whats happening section to find out when they are playing next.

Phoenix Trip

I went to Phoenix this past weekend.  It was a nice trip and a badly needed time away.  I am moving back there when this semester ends.  I am graduating in June, and moving in July.  It will be so nice to be a Zoni again.  I moved to Cali seven years ago knowing that I would be back in Zoni someday.  I did not think it was going to take seven years, but oh well.  It has been fun.  I am going to miss the wonderful friends that I have made in Cali, but they will only be an ICQ away.

Moving Along

Another day of yoga.  Really liking it.  I still do karate on Sundays also.  We are having a tournament in March.  Maybe I will move up to Orange belt then.

This school semester is moving right along.  Less than 15 weeks until graduation.  I am almost there.  Bachelors of Science in Computer Science.  Not bad.  Only five and a half years of my life.  I am now 15 weeks away from finishing.

Yoga

Well, I started my first day of Yoga today.  Not bad.  I think I am going to like it.  Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30am.  The early morning part is the only yucky part, but once I got there and started getting into it, it was great.  I feel pretty good right now.  It is going to be a good day.
